Glass and steel civic structure against the sky

Practising

patience

Fifteen years of quiet, considered architecture from a studio on Copenhagen’s harbour front.

Founded in Copenhagen, 2011

Where quiet becomes practice

Havn Architects began in a small studio above a boatyard on the harbour, built on a simple conviction: a building earns its place by holding still. We work in a narrow register of material, light and proportion, choosing what to leave out as carefully as what we put in. The result is architecture that ages well and asks little of the people who live inside it.

Approach

Three convictions we build from

Daylight moving across a plastered interior wall

Restraint

We add nothing a building does not need, and remove what it can do without.

Warm minimal interior with exposed timber and stone

Material honesty

Concrete, timber and stone are left to read as themselves, not as a finish applied over something else.

Courtyard house with pool set into the landscape

Built to last

Every brief is tested against a fifty year horizon, long after the first client has moved on.
