Our People

Operators, Investors, and Stewards

The people behind Arven have built companies, run them through hard years, and sat on both sides of the table. That experience is the whole point.

The Operator Who Started Arven

Portrait of Marcus Hale, Founder and Managing Partner
Marcus Hale
Founder and Managing Partner
In his words

I started Arven because I wanted to be the partner I never had when I was running a business, someone who had actually done the job and would stay through the hard parts.

Marcus spent the first half of his career as an operator, buying a small packaging company and spending eleven years growing it before a successful exit. He learned the difference between a good quarter and a good decade the hard way, and built Arven so that founders would never have to trade the long view for a fund's calendar.

  • Operating: Acquired Meridian Packaging in 2011 and grew revenue from $8M to $60M over eleven years.
  • People: Scaled a single-plant team from 40 to more than 320 across three facilities.
  • Prior: Private equity at Griffin Partners and investment banking at Morgan Reed.
  • Education: MBA, Wharton School; B.A. Economics, University of Southern California.

The People You Will Work With

A small, senior team, so the people who evaluate a deal are the same people who stand beside you after it closes.

What We Are Like to Work With

01

Operators at heart

We have signed payroll, lost a big customer, and made the hard call to let someone go. That memory keeps us humble and useful when a portfolio company hits the same wall.

02

Long-term by default

Permanent capital lets us measure success in decades. We would rather compound quietly for years than chase a headline exit that leaves a good business worse off.

03

Plain-spoken and honest

No jargon, no games, and no surprises buried in a term sheet. If we disagree with you, you will hear it from us directly, and early enough to do something about it.

04

Aligned and invested

Our own capital sits alongside yours in every deal. When the business does well we do well, and when it struggles we feel it too. That is the point.
