A floor is made slowly, the way a valley grows a forest: cut with care, dried without haste, and finished by hand.
Between the standing tree and the plank you walk on there are six deliberate steps. None of them is rushed. Each one is measured, because a surface that has to last for generations cannot be built in a hurry. This is how a LARIX floor comes to be.
Six steps, from the forest to the fitting.

01
The forest
Selective felling in managed woodland
We buy only from forests certified for long-term management, where more is planted than is taken. Trees are chosen individually and felled in winter, when the wood is at its most stable.
-
02
The sawmill
Sawn close to where it grew
Logs are cut within a day of the forest to keep transport short. Each board is graded by hand, and the offcuts are kept back to heat the drying kilns rather than thrown away.
-
03
Kiln drying
Dried slowly to a settled moisture
Fresh timber is dried over weeks, not days, using recovered heat until it reaches the exact moisture a floor needs. Rushing this step is what makes lesser floors cup and gap, so we never do.
-
04
Milling and pressing
Cut, matched and pressed to tolerance
Boards are milled to fractions of a millimetre, matched for grain and colour, and pressed onto a stable core. Herringbone and chevron blocks are set point to point so the finished pattern runs true.
-
05
Hand finishing
Brushed, oiled and left to breathe
Every surface is brushed to raise the grain, then finished with natural oil rather than a plastic seal. The oil sinks into the wood, so the floor can be refreshed in place instead of being sanded back to bare board.

06
The fitting
Laid by installers we train ourselves
The last step happens in your room. Our certified partners acclimatise the wood, set the pattern and finish the edges, then hand over a floor that is ready to be lived on for decades.
Less taken along the way, from forest to floor
Sustainability here is not a sticker on the box. It is the reason the business can still exist in another seventy years. We buy from responsibly managed forests, dry with recovered heat, and turn every offcut into energy or a smaller product rather than waste.
Every plank is traceable to the region it grew in, and every finish is chosen so the wood can be repaired rather than replaced.
The certifications behind every board.
Independent standards for the timber, the emissions and the whole life of the product. We keep the paperwork so you do not have to.
Forest Stewardship Council
Chain-of-custody certified timber from forests managed for the long term.
Programme for Endorsement
Independent proof of sustainable forestry across our European supply.
Blue Angel
Low emission label for finishes that keep indoor air healthy to breathe.
Environmental Declaration
A verified account of the footprint of each floor across its full life.
Cradle to Cradle
Materials assessed so the floor can return safely to the cycle at end of life.
Indoor Air Comfort
Tested for very low emissions, so a new floor never fills a room with fumes.
Residential surface warranty on every oiled floor we make
Times a solid wear layer can be sanded and re-oiled before renewal
Certified timber across the entire assortment, with no exceptions
Timber sent to landfill: every offcut becomes energy or a smaller product
Built to be repaired, not replaced
An oiled LARIX floor is designed for a long life of small, easy care rather than one dramatic replacement. Keep the routine simple and the surface will keep improving for decades.
