Four habits for building a room around the wood rather than over it.
Let the tone lead
Pick the floor tone first, then walls and textiles. A warm Miele wants soft neutrals, while a pale Blanca can carry stronger colour above it.
Light before colour
Look at the floor in your own daylight. North light cools every tone, so order a sample and live with it for a few days before you decide.
Rugs and thresholds
Leave a margin of visible wood around rugs, and run the same board through doorways so a home reads as one continuous, calm surface.
Repair, not replace
Design for the long life of an oiled floor. Plan the layout so a worn zone can be sanded and re-oiled in place, not lifted and thrown away.
